| [Kokkinos, 1957, 5/76] Naousa: At that time many women, among who there were mothers with small children in their arms and some others were virgins, run to a high ground above the rocky bed of the river Mavroneri. Out of desperation as not to fall at the hands of Turks and to avoid ignominies, sufferings and the islamization of their children, they threw themselves in the torrential flowing waters of the river and drowned.
